Polywood
Polywood is a process studied and developed over years by BG Plast and covered by industrial patent.
Polywood is a compound consisting of wood sawdust and polymer, used to produce sheets of different thicknesses and widths.
One or two co-extrusion extruders are used to process this compound, followed by a precision calender to form the sheet of the required width and thickness.
The percentages of the compound vary according to the mechanical characteristics to be obtained in the final product; generally, a 50-50 ratio up to even 80% sawdust and 20% polymer.
The polymer used is generally recycled polypropylene: a great economic advantage for the process.
In addition to the numerous applications in construction, industrial and general packaging, we also find a large use of this product in the automotive sector. In fact, most car manufacturers choose Polywood for the production of door interiors. This is due to the fact that it lends itself very well to compression moulding or lamination with a layer of non-woven fabric, that gives it a quality surface finishing.
A further advantage of Polywood is its complete recyclability. In fact, once it has been ground and finely shredded, it can be 100 % reused for the same application.
